Giovanni Cattoli

Bio:Giovanni Cattoli graduated in Veterinary Medicine and holds a PhD from the University of Bologna (Italy). He spent his three-year Post-Doc position in The Netherlands working on helicobacter infections at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – Utrecht University- first, then at the School of Medicine – Free University of Amsterdam.
Since 2000 he’s been working in the field of virology and influenza infections at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) where he holds the position of Director of the Research & Innovation Department. He is senior scientist in the OIE and FAO Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza and Newcastle disease and in the OIE Collaborating Centre for diseases at the animal-human interface.
His main fields of activity concern the development and application of rapid and innovative diagnostic methods for veterinary infectious diseases and zoonoses, the development of novel vaccination strategies for avian influenza, molecular epidemiology of emerging and zoonotic pathogens in different animal species.
